MATERIAL SOURCING
Working with academic and industry partners, our research blends the topics of forestry, material science, traditional building and advanced fabrication.

We are interested in how the demand of timber markets for the building trades influences the species mix of commercial forests, and how new methods of architectural manufacturing can be used to open the markets to greater diversity. We believe that by building with a variety of species, and by establishing more opportunistic relationships with forests, biodiversity can be encouraged in managed landscapes. This is vital as the forests most threatened by unstable climates will be those that lack biodiversity.

We look towards a future of resilient commercial forestry and the market viability of biodiverse timber structures, with the aim of bringing these subjects to commercial markets wth real-world impact.
DESIGN
Our research in design looks at the future aesthetic viability of low-carbon biogenic materials. By developing new modelling techniques, and architectural visualizations, we aim to develop contemporary aesthetics embedded in regional ecology. In creating tools for modelling, we aim to allow designers to move quickly and accurately when choosing to work with non-standard materials.
Fabrication
We are actively exploring novel construction techniques using high-end fabrication tools, in both digital and physical environments. This includes work with robotics, 3D scanning and automation using a variety of materials and methods.
Architecture workshop
Architecture Workshop is a design consulting and specialist fabrication practice. We are experts in modelling and craftsmanship, with a focus on materials and the integration of advanced tooling into mainstream fabrication workflows. We bridge the gap between multiple disciplines, communicating fluently with architects, builders, fabricators, engineers, and resource managers. We understand the unique informational needs of each field and deliver solutions quickly, accurately, and clearly. We provide expert guidance on design-for-manufacture workflows, high-end fabrication models and building information, and advanced prototyping services.

Architecture Workshop is an enabler, and we are very good at figuring it out.

digital design
We see ourselves as ‘design assist’, advising on early-stage design direction through to final production from a resource and production-method stance. As leading experts in modelling and fabrication workflows, we create design tools and automated methods that enhance the design process. These tools embed the logic of materials and fabrication into the modelling process while remaining flexible for designers to use. Our goal is to enable higher standards of design and creative expression, all while prioritizing materials.
Timber Consulting
We have a passion for materials and craftsmanship, with a special love for working with wood. We believe the future of traditionally forested regions will largely be built with timber, but this requires a refined knowledge of forestry to be integrated into the art of making buildings. We collaborate with academic and industry partners to visualize a future built in partnership with regenerative and biodiverse forests.

As timber consultants, we combine an understanding of timber’s mechanical properties with a sensitivity to bioregional sourcing and local production. We specialize in a variety of timber fabrication methods and provide innovative solutions for non-standard timber projects. Our priority is to build with timber as efficiently as possible, using the right technology in its right place.
fabrication
We are experts in the integration of traditional tooling and technique within digital workflows. Our work benefits from a fluid transition between digital and physical environments, with both providing information and feedback for the other. Scripting, modelling, scanning, CNC, 6+ axis robotics are comfortably within the tool library, right next to chisels, saws and hand planes.

Our prototyping and fabrication services access experimental and advanced manufacturing technologies, complimented by traditional tools. By combining prototyping with design for manufacture, we explore novel construction methods that enhance, expand and support design possibilities. This integrated approach allows us to go beyond traditional boundaries, discovering and implementing innovative solutions that bring visionary designs to life.
