This feature wall in a private gallery was designed by the Indigenous Design Studio at Brook McIlroy. It is an eight metre by four metre wall, clad in sixty intricately detailed white oak boards. The wall itself features carved reliefs that are read as a story. Carved textures set the background to the reliefs, representing transitions between ground and sky. Working with the designers, we developed and refined carving patterns, modelling and visualizing the overall artwork to ensure legibility and accuracy in the translation of ideas to machining tools. Alongside the fabricators, we developed a way of organizing and communicating the machine toolpaths for quick production of the custom elements.
