The Blade Building was a course run for twelve first year media studies students in the first term of 2023. The course was designed to introduce the students to 1:1 making techniques and timber material properties. The students received six Alder logs, which they had to work down to planks and shape into structural components using primarily hand tools. Twelve components came together to assemble a dome made of four arches. Students learned elements of regenerative forestry, a variety of hand tools, embedding knowledge of material, making and structure within themselves by physically engaging tool with timber.
